The next step in operational efficiency: Introducing remote water service management with the Neptune MACH 10v®
Neptune is committed to helping utilities operate more efficiently. One of the most effective ways to do that is by reducing unnecessary truck rolls. When crews spend less time traveling into the field for routine tasks, they can focus their time and expertise on more critical needs across the utility. The MACH 10v is built with that goal in mind.
With the MACH 10v, utilities can eliminate another labor-intensive and costly field task. This is especially valuable as utilities face increasing pressure to improve operational efficiency and customer service, while controlling costs and prioritizing employee safety.
The MACH 10v solution was designed to help solve utility challenges by combining Neptune's proven MACH 10 ultrasonic meter technology with an integrated remote shutoff valve. The valve is remotely operated in Neptune 360 software, helping to reduce field visits, limit crew exposure to unsafe conditions, and allow the utility to reallocate resources.
How the shutoff valve solution works
The MACH 10v offers the proven capabilities of the residential MACH 10, with the added advantage of enabling utilities to control water service remotely. The result is the same trusted meter performance, accuracy, standard temperature monitoring, optional pressure monitoring, and alarm functionality, with added operational flexibility.
The valve supports three operating positions: open for normal service, closed for service shutoff, and restricted flow for limited water delivery for humanitarian purposes. When paired with a compatible R900 cellular endpoint, the MACH 10v allows users to reliably initiate and monitor valve operations through Neptune 360®.
Through Neptune 360, utility users can submit valve commands, monitor valve command status, and review results remotely. This workflow eliminates the need for routine truck rolls for service-control activities.
The value of remote water service control for utilities
For many water utilities, service activations and deactivations are among the most common and costly field operations. Whether responding to non-payment accounts, frequent move-ins and move-outs such as for college towns, rental properties, or vacation rentals, these routine tasks often require personnel to be dispatched into the field.
Truck rolls consume valuable staff time and resources, increase operational costs, and can impact customer service responsiveness. As utilities continue to modernize their operations, many are looking for ways to accomplish more with existing staff while improving safety, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction. The MACH 10v solution was designed to help meet those challenges by enabling utilities to remotely control water service and monitor valve operations without dispatching field crews for routine service activities.
For utilities that have frequent shutoffs and turn on events, remote valve operation can help reduce staff time and field travel. Having the option to just initiate a valve operation remotely can significantly reduce costs. Reducing routine field visits can also limit crew exposure to unsafe conditions, difficult-to-access locations, and other site-specific hazards, while allowing personnel to focus on higher-priority field activities.
Restricted flow: an alternative to full shutoff
The MACH 10v's restricted flow capability provides utilities with an alternative to complete service shutoff by allowing limited water flow for essential use. Restricted flow provides an alternative to complete service shutoff by allowing limited water flow for essential needs. Utilities may use the restricted flow state for non-payment situations or to support local policies and requirements where maintaining minimum water access is appropriate.
Remote service control, one solution
From meter reading to service control, the MACH 10v empowers utilities to manage water service remotely, reduce operational costs, and deliver better customer service through one solution.
